Our policies in brief
We will develop fully detailed and well-costed policy documents as time permits. Our immediate priorities are fighting the European Parliamentary elections in the Eastern and South Eastern regions, alongside supporting our candidates standing in local elections.
If you would like to have a feel for the direction our policies are likely to take, here is a summary of the main issues that we stand for:-
Smaller, more accountable government
We will seek to reduce the cost, the scope and the number layers of government. We will seek to make it less intrusive. We will review the relevance and efficiency of the many Quangos that cost us so dearly. We would introduce Swiss-style referenda at national and local government level to make it more accountable to the people. An end to mass immigration
Most people feel there are already too many people in Britain. An ever-increasing population makes us more vulnerable to fluctuations in fuel and food prices. We have many beautiful landscapes in Britain and do not wish to see any more of our countryside concreted over for yet more houses. We will deport any illegal immigrants and failed asylum seekers and will introduce strict curbs on who is allowed to settle in this country.Low taxes
It is unacceptable that over 40% of our hard-earned income goes to the government. We will couple our drive for smaller, less wasteful government with a tax system that is fair, simple and low. We oppose the uses of “behavioural” taxes. Taxation should not be used as a means of manipulating people’s behaviour.Freedom of Expression.
We will scrap much of this government’s “hate crime” legislation. British people should be free to express themselves and live according to their principles even if others do not approve of their values – unless it leads to physical violence. Political correctness leads to a society that is intellectually sterile.Self-government
We will replace Britain’s membership of the EU with a Free Trade agreement, and would consider re-joining the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) which we left to join the EEC (as it then was) in 1973. We will review all EU-imposed legislation on our statute books, scrapping anything that is not in Britain’s interest, ensuring policies that work towards food and energy security for Britain so that we can be self-sufficient in time of war and cannot be held hostage by our suppliers. The billions saved by withdrawal will help reduce the long-term debt Gordon Brown’s profligacy has saddled us with.Less regulation
While the banking crisis has shown that some parts of the economy need additional regulation, many other areas are over-regulated. In our review of what EU legislation can be scrapped, we will prioritise the removal of unnecessary burdens on small businesses, as we believe that the health of this sector is a vital ingredient in Britain’s economic recovery.Welfare reform
We will remove any automatic entitlement to social security and housing from non-UK citizens, scrapping any Human Rights legislation that may act as a hindrance to this. We will ensure that the needy receive genuine support but that idleness is discouragedCriminal Justice that works.
We will reform the Criminal Justice system so that police time is not wasted in form filling and enforcing political correctness, but in the prevention and solving of crime. We support a greater use of “beat” policing. We will build more prisons as custodial sentences are the only effective method of dealing with persistent criminals. We support the right of citizens to defend themselves from intruders in their own homes.Reinforcment of our heritage.
We believe that multi-culturalism has produced a dangerously fragmented society. Apart from areas where languages like Welsh and Gaelic have been spoken for centuries, English will be the nation’s language, and we will insist that anyone aspiring to live long-term in Britain must display a competence in the English language. We will ensure British history is taught in our schools, and will reinstate Imperial measurements as Britain’s official system. While fully supporting the principle of freedom of worship, we recognise the value of Britain’s Christian heritage and will scrap any measures which have sought to restrict the practise and promotion of the Christian faith. We believe in the protection of the family unit as the basis of society. One law for all
While recognising the historic differences between English and Scottish law, we will not grant any legal status for any variant of Sharia law or any other similar system in Britain. British citizens must accept British laws.
